About Dharmshala
Dharamshala came into existence as a typical British Sanatorium 1860. The scenic hill station lies on a spur of Dharamshala range at a distance of 20 kms from recently constructed air strip at Gaggal. The snow capped mountains offer you a breath taking view. In 1960 a new dimensions was added to the place when the world renowned spiritual leader of Tibet. His holiness the Dalai Lama established the headquarters of his government exile at McLeodganj 15 km from the main township. The seat of Dalai Lama is known as "Little Lhasa in India".

Approach :
AIR :Gaggal, 20 kms from Dharamshala is connected with Delhi, Chandigarh, Pathankot, Shimla, Kullu, by MDLR, Deccan, Jagsons, India Air Lines etc. Reservations can be got done from any domestic agency or the office of HPTDC (ltd.) Chanderlok Building, 36 Janpath, New Delhi.
RAIL : After a rail journey from metro cities of Indian to Pathankot one can enjoy the onward journey by the enchanting narrow gauge train up to Kangra from where the distance of about 20 kms can to be covered b7y bus or a taxi.
ROAD : Dharamshala is well connected by buses from within the state as well as from Chandigarh and Delhi. HRTC provides interstate Semi-Deluxe and Deluxe services from Dharamshala to Shimla, Kullu, Manali and Dalhousie among other places.

Spot to See :
The hill station is divided into two separate parts known as lower Dharamshala and Upper Dharamshala.
Lower Dharamshala is the district headquarters of Kangra having civic buildings, a bazaar, a few hotels the tourists offices, the main bus stop and the museum, Upper Dharamshala runs up to McLeod Ganj via Forsytheganj.
CHURCH OF ST. JOHN'S IN WILDERNESS: Midway Between Forsytheganj and Mcleodganj this famous church is encompassed by tall cedar trees with a big church bell in the center of the courtyard. Peace and calm descends on who enters the main gate. A former viceroy Lord Elgin lies buried in peace here.
DAL LAKE, DHARAMKOT, BAGSUNAG; KARERI AND TRIUND : Forest Rest House form other attractions in this area in addition to a refreshing dip in the cool &fresh waters of Bhagsu Nag.
REGIONAL MOUNTAINEERING CENTER : Housed in a Building commanding a view of the entire town next to the HPPWD rest house is an information house this for the guidance of mountaineers and trekkers.
CHINMAYA TAPOVAN : An ashram and temple with a difference on the Dari road. Joining the regular prayers is a soul - soothing experience.
CHAMUNDA DEVI TEMPLE : Ahead of Chinmaya Tapovan on the Dari road, 18 kms from Dharamshala is the seat of Chamunda Devi worshipped for spiritual solace. The temple is above the bathing ghats. There is provision for night stay as well.
BAROH : About 35 kms from Kangra on Daulatpur-Kandi road, the village Baroh is famous for Radha Krishan temple made of white marbel and the temple of Goddess Durga. There is also an ancient temple of Kali Nath Shankar, which is worth visiting. It is also approachable from Jawalamukhi road (Ranital) railway station (15kms).
KANGRA FORT (630 mts) : The historical Kangra Fort is just 3 kms away from Kangra town. The view of gushing streams of Bangana and Manjhi Rivers from the Fort is charming. The Kangra Fort was the seat of power of the Katoch Rajas and is believed to have been founded by Susharma Chand Katoch, an ally of Kauravas in the Mahabharata war. It was the kingdom and symbol of power in the Punjab Hill States.
JWALAMUKHI : This popular place of pilgrimage is accessible from Kangra (35kms) as well as Dharamshala (53kms). The ancient temple, built against a wooded spur, has a dome that was gilded by Maharaja Ranjit Singh. Pilgrims consider an eternally burning flame emanating from a hollow rock in the sanctum to be a manifestation of the goddess Devi.
KATHTGARH : Famous for ancient Shiva Temple, Kathgarh is 102 kms from Dharamshala via Nurpur-Indaura. The temple enshrines a human size linga, which is vertically split into two parts. The distance between these two parts keep increasing and decreasing from time to time.
